Not Kidding

I just want you to know how not kidding I am when I talk about Trynica pretending to be a princess. In the picture below you will see Tryn laying on the couch pretending to be Sleeping Beauty. Notice that she is wearing her beads (which is actually something that Cinderella wears) and I am not kidding about the pacifier which has become the stand-in crown. I have had this crown balanced on my head several times as Tryn bestows on me "a crown of grace and beauty" (which is a line from the movie).

Tryn has, for some reason, taken to calling herself Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, or even Grace and Beauty. When I say, "Tryn, do you need to go potty?" She will tell me, "No, Mom, Cinderella needs to go potty." Or, "No, no, Grace and Beauty, Mom." Also notice the way there is a blanket laying over the bottom half of her body and the way her hands are folded on her chest, just the way that Sleeping Beauty looks when she is laying in her deep sleep. Tryn will get all ready with her crown, go through the motions of walking across the room to touch her finger on an imaginary spinning wheel, fall to the ground, and then get up and go prepare herself this way on the couch. Then I will get a, "Mom!! Mom! Can you come and kiss me?" And she will lay there with her eyes half closed until I come to kiss her. She will do this several times in a row.

She also does a similar thing with Cinderella. She will come to me and say, "Mom, can you say, 'these beads, they give it just the right touch'?" Then I play my part of the evil stepmother and the stepsisters who tear her dress apart. After she runs to the garden to cry, I become the fairy godmother who makes her a "car" and a dress. I have some really great video of this, if only I could find the dumb cord to put it on my computer!

This is so funny. I love it! I can't believe how imaginative she is. I would love to be able to just get inside her head to see what is really going on when she is acting out these parts. She can quote entire sections of the movies and can sing the theme songs from them both. Crazy kid. She is so dang smart.

I love your story - Tryn is incredibly imaginative and I look forward to watching the video! If you have time you should type in www.hhaines.blogpsot.com. It goes to this other person's site on my computer and I don't know why. Its all about archeology I think.

I love that she refers to herself as "Grace and Beauty". One time Steve had the worship team refer to him as "Class and Handsome", I wonder if there is a connection...

I am soooo looking forward to the princess stage! Right now I am so tired of saying, "Mater, like Ta-mater without the Ta," that I want to pull my hair out! Gotta love that crazy little boy!
Glorious post and picture btw . . . man, I would kiss that princess a million times if she would wake up so I could do it again!

I laughed out loud reading this! You play so many roles in Tryn's life--the evil stepmother, the fairy godmother. You need to keep this story close at hand to show her when she's older--say 14. On the days she is acting less than princess-like, you can ask her, "Which would you like me to be now--the evil stepmother or the fairy godmother?" Find your cord and post that video. I can't WAIT to see it!!

Wow, ask for comments and you get them. Maybe I should try that. :)
Enjoy the princess years. They leave them behind much too soon...but will soon want to marry their dad, and fall in love with teen idols like Zach Efron. Ha.
I love the princess years. I hope she always remembers these wonderful times.

OH MY GOSH. Heidi. This is my favorite Tryn-story to date - and there are plenty of doozies. I just love picturing you playing all those roles... to funny. And seriously, that picture is absolutely priceless. The half-closed eyes, the pose... If I was ever going to steal a kid, it would for sure be Tryn.

Must be nice to have girls... Obsessively playing princes seems a little more appealing than what we play in our house which is lets tear everything apart to see how it works with no intention of putting it back together again. William is 2 and can successfully use a screw driver to take things apart. I hope to God its a while before he finds my power tools.

So so cute. My girls are really imaginative, too. I can't believe what they come up with sometimes. Love the pacifier crown.
